Discover the Sisterhood of Alpha Delta Pi 💖
At Greek Clothing Co., we celebrate the rich history and enduring values of sororities that shape incredible women. Today, we're shining a spotlight on Alpha Delta Pi (ΑΔΠ), the oldest secret society for college women in the world, founded on May 15, 1851, at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. 🏛️ This pioneering organization, originally known as the Adelphean Society, was founded by Eugenia Fitzgerald, Octavia Andrew Rush, Mary Evans Glass, Ella Pierce Turner, Elizabeth Williams Mitchell, and Sophronia Woodruff Dews. These six courageous women established a sisterhood rooted in friendship and shared purpose, paving the way for countless women's organizations that followed.
A Legacy of Firsts and Friendship 🤝
Alpha Delta Pi's legacy is built on a strong foundation of sisterhood, scholarship 📚, and service. Their open motto, "We Live For Each Other," perfectly encapsulates the spirit of genuine friendship and mutual support that defines ADPi. This motto guides their members in fostering deep, lifelong bonds and supporting one another through every stage of life. The sorority emphasizes intellectual growth, encouraging academic excellence among its members and providing resources to help them achieve their educational goals.
Symbols and Spirit 💎💜
The sorority's official colors are Azure Blue 💙 and White 🤍. Blue symbolizes friendship, the core value upon which Alpha Delta Pi was founded, while white represents sincerity and truth, embodying the integrity and honesty expected of every sister. Their beautiful official flower is the Woodland Violet 🌸, a delicate yet resilient bloom. The Woodland Violet represents humility and purity, often chosen for its ability to grow in various environments, symbolizing the adaptability and strength of ADPi women. While true Woodland Violets are rare, African Violets 💜 are commonly used to represent this cherished symbol.
The beloved mascot of Alpha Delta Pi is "Alphie" the Lion 🦁, a powerful and noble creature. Alphie symbolizes strength 💪, courage, and justice, reflecting the leadership qualities and ethical principles that Alpha Delta Pi instills in its members. You'll often see the four-pointed diamond ✨ as a prominent symbol, serving as a visual representation of their core values: sisterhood 👯♀️, service altruism, character, and knowledge 🧠 – the guiding principles of every ADPi woman. This emblem serves as a constant reminder of their commitment to personal growth and collective betterment.
Dedicated to Philanthropy ❤️🏡
Alpha Delta Pi is deeply committed to making a positive impact through its philanthropy, supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). Since 1979, ADPi chapters across the globe have dedicated countless hours and raised millions of dollars for RMHC. Their dedication helps provide a "home away from home" 🏠 for families with seriously ill children, offering comfort and support during challenging times. This partnership truly embodies the sorority's commitment to unselfish service to mankind, demonstrating the profound difference they make in communities worldwide.
