The bulk discounts are automatically applied, and will even automatically be applied in combination with any sales going on! You will be able to see the bulk discounts being applied on the side cart, as well as on the cart and checkout pages. For the bulk discount to be applied, and for the items to be considered as the "same", they only need to have the same product name, or sku. For example a bulk order of Sewn on Greek Letter T-shirts. The T-shirts that the bulk order consists of can be different sizes, different colors, have different Greek letter sizes, different Greek Letter colors, or even have different Greek Letters!
